Scripture makes it quite clear what must be done to reverse the tide of evil, yet many Christians wonder why America is in such a dire situation, while at the same time disregarding God’s admonition:
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”—2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV)
Or are we being affected by this verse?
“But if ye turn away, and forsake my statutes and my commandments, which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them; 20 Then will I pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have sanctified for my name, will I cast out of my sight, and will make it to be a proverb and a byword among all nations.” – 2 Chronicles 7:19-20

Success of a revival rests with the teaching of our children. Teaching by the parents, not the state.

How A Civilization Keeps Itself Alive
Civilization is a shared understanding, and the only way a civilization can maintain this understanding from generation to generation is by that understanding being passed from parent to child, which is how a civilization keeps itself alive.
The nature of an understanding depends upon its founding values, which makes morality (the actual values adopted) the vital concern for parents, with the early experiences of infancy the most critical for the formation of understanding in a child. This means that the lessons taught to the infant during the first weeks or months of its existence are the most important, as every subsequent value must reflect those values already adopted by the maturing mind of the person. For once the foundation of values is set; it is for life, with the values taught during child rearing becoming a permanent part of the adult’s understanding.
Consequences Of Failure
If parents fail to teach their offspring the basic morality and knowledge that are the foundation of the tradition of the community, then the resulting adult will fail to become a useful citizen, but will become a problem citizen—an individual with an understanding different and incompatible to the shared understanding that is the community. Once such problem citizens become sufficient in numbers then the community must decay until it finally dissolves.
Mr. Atkinson is stating to how and why morals are important in a civilized society. It is the duty of the parents to teach morality to their children, not the state. From the time of our founding, parents have taken this responsibility seriously. Now the state through the public school system is trying to dictate to the parents that morals are not important.
The main emphasis on teaching morals today (or lack thereof) comes from the people and leaders of this nation that believe in Secular Humanism. What is Secular Humanism?
Secular Humanism is an attempt to function as a civilized society with the exclusion of God and His moral principles. During the last several decades, Humanists have been very successful in propagating their beliefs. Their primary approach is to target the youth through the public school system. Humanist Charles F. Potter writes, “Education is thus a most powerful ally of humanism, and every American school is a school of humanism. What can a theistic Sunday school’s meeting for an hour once a week and teaching only a fraction of the children do to stem the tide of the five-day program of humanistic teaching?”
The only way to achieve the goal of these Secular Humanists is to remove God from the class room. They have done this in many ways, mostly through the courts.
We have had prayer removed from the class room, we have had religious documents and sayings removed from schools and public buildings. The Pledge of Allegiance is being challenged constantly because of the words “Under God” is in it.
Any mention of God or Christianity is forbidden in public forums and exercises. Why then does the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives open each session with a prayer? Our money says “In God We Trust”. The Supreme Court building is full of the Ten Commandments and other religious sayings and prayers.
Children are being suspended from school for expressing the religious beliefs in an attempt to exercise their Constitutional right of religious expression. Parents are being taken out of the equation in the education of their children.
Our children and grandchildren are the future of our nation. The moral compass that is set in them at the beginning of their young lives is what will determine their path and thus the path of this once great nation.

The Corruption of our Children
In an effort to teach morals to our children we are thwarted by the state in public schools that teach sex education instead of sexual abstinence. The state run schools teach that homosexual relationships are alright for an alternative lifestyle, even though the parents might disagree.
In 1997 in Northborough, Massachusetts parents demanded that a high school teacher be fired for teaching about sexuality and possible homosexual experiences. He gave his students (in history mind you) a list of sixteen questions relating to sexuality. Among them were:
What do you think caused your heterosexuality? Is it possible your heterosexuality is just a phase which you might outgrow? Considering the menace of overpopulation, how would the human race survive if everyone was heterosexual like you? How can you become a whole person if you limit yourself to compulsive, exclusive heterosexuality? Should you at least try to develop your natural, healthy, homosexual potential?
This is just one example of how our schools are moving from teaching basic moral values, to teaching that it’s alright to have sex out of wedlock and to any other alternative lifestyle contrary to the Bible. They stress “safe sex” instead of “no sex”. We as a nation must take over the control of our children’s lives and the education of traditional family values.
